  19. HAYWARD: Liberace's rendition of MalaGAYna

MalaGAYna (ha!) with a bonus intro by Sammy Davis, Jr.!

And another version by Keith Richards.

Keith learned to play the tune for his family at a young age and played it for his mum Doris as she lay dying…

“She was drifting in and out of this opiate state, and I played a few licks of "Malaguena" and the other stuff that she knew I knew, that I'd played since I was a kid. She drifted off to sleep, and the next morning my assistant Sherry, who'd looked after my mother with love and devotion, went to see her like she did every morning, and she said "Did you hear Keith playing for you last night?" And Doris said, "Yeah, it was a bit out of tune." That's my mother for you. But I have to defer to Doris. She had unerring pitch and a beautiful sense of music which she got from her parents, from Emma and Gus, who first taught me "Malaguena". It was Doris who gave me my first review. I remember her coming home from work. I was on the top of the stairs playing "Malaguena". She went through to the kitchen, did something with pots and pans. She began to hum along with me. Suddenly she came to the foot of the stairs. "Is that you? I thought it was the radio." Two bars of "Malaguena" and you're in.”

I have somehow gone through life without knowing about Gaye…but I think I’ll be fine.

Here’s your link to annoying Tom.

Perhaps we should start a new category for “most annoying gay song.”

Oh, what am I saying? I have to get out of the house at some point. I don’t have TIME for another category!

I Googled Amanda Lear to see what she’s doing today and Wikipedia says…

“From March 2009 throughout spring 2011 she's been touring France with the very successful play Panique au Ministère.”

Other tidbits… “Lear's early life is unclear, including her birthdate, gender, names and nationalities of her parents, and the location of upbringing.”

They’ve listed her birth date as November 18, 1939 or 1946. Quite a jump, there.

  36. I know I'm late, but the mention of Scissor Sisters has me thinking of 'Making Ladies' - Surely a Very Gay Tune as only a Gay would make a lady out of fabric & plastic.

Yes, you ARE late and since I’m busy decorating, I’m not posting a link to the tune on your behalf, as much as you KNOW how much I like the Scissor Sisters.
