Supermoon - Coming Soon to a Sky Near You!

On the night of Sunday, November 13, the closest full moon since 1948 will appear in the sky.

They say if you’re below retirement age, you’ll never have seen it so big or so bright.

NASA has dubbed it an “extra-supermoon” because of its proximity to the Earth, and due to the fact it won’t appear again until until 2034.

Since another full moon this close and this large in the sky will not be seen for another 18 years, we here at Infomaniac encourage you to get out and see it for yourself, weather and clear skies permitting.

Note: The Mistress is neither an astronomer nor a scientist so for more information, click here.

  1. Oh, MJ don't let's ask for the moon. We have the stars....
    Okay, maybe just this once.

  2. There will inevitably be cloudy skies across the UK - as is usual when such momentous astronomical events occur (meteors, comets, eclipses, etc.) Even the Lord Mayor's Fireworks last night were somewhat obscured by cloud. Jx

    1. JON: Alas. If Monday doesn't work out, they say it should still be impressive on Tuesday night.

    2. May I suggest Jon, to just press your full moon against the window to the passersby of London. I'm sure they'll enjoy the view.

    4. The so-often-reliable Good Image Search has failed us utterly. Don't know if it's being prim or just clueless, but the only suggestion it returns for this particular vignette is "3d planet earth wallpaper icon." Hardly satisfactory.

I'm always amused by the (lack of) expression one sees in these old stills. The strapping young thing to the left at least looks fairly intent; his colleague, however, looks as if he's just remembered that he's lost his keys.

    5. MUSCATO: If he's sat on his keys and lost them, the strapping young thing to the left will soon find them.

    6. Well, I'm glad to see that somebody is thinking of safety first. I mean, bathtubs are very slippery, and if one is going to be standing up in the tub, having an extra pair of steady hands and sturdy legs can be a godsend!
Plus, the fact that the strapping young thing on the left has plugged himself in to his colleague will ensure that there are no mishaps.

  12. BITCHES: Crikey! I've given you the wrong info. The Supermoon is SUNDAY night. TONIGHT! Apologies. How did I get this far in life, one wonders.

Too overcast to see it early this morning when it's supposed to be at its most impressive but it should still be making quite the appearance this evening.
