Beast is Back

We interrupt the Seventh Annual Infomaniac Garden Photos Event to report that BEAST is back...



But you probably already knew that, based on the stench of rancid chickpea curry.

He's at least managed to launder his stinky duvet, which is a start...



Why has he been away for so long? It appears that Beast was dealing for a couple of years with medical professionals...



Poor Mr. Beastie has endured bladder cancer, operations, chemo, and a nasty tumour named Brian.

Thankfully, everything has been sorted and he's back with us again. I can't believe I said "thankfully" but there you have it. I may have missed him, a little. And even more miraculously, he's posted twice this week!!!

If you haven't already done so, pop over to Beastliness and leave a comment or introduce yourself if you haven't already had the "pleasure" of meeting him. He's taking calls...



In other news, another Brian in the form of a wicked storm is about to hit our friends in the U.K., including Mr Beastie!...

British Jon's Garden Photos

It's been another delightful summer in the extensive gardens here at Dolores Delargo Towers - and, up until mid-July, a hot one too. We also benefited from a particularly mild spring here in London, which meant that all our bulbs and herbaceous plants were off to a very early start, and with the balmy air of May and June everything rocketed to put on some impressive growth.

Our fennel reached eight feet tall, the Rosa "Veilchenblau" grown from a cutting produced almost 20 sprays of flowers, the Nicotiana mutabilis was already six feet tall in April (and its progeny are even taller, and still flowering beautifully in September), and from Kniphofia to delphiniums to lilies to dahlias to salvias, the flowers have all been bigger and better than ever (despite the bloody Fuchsia gall mites!).

I have struggled to whittle down the photos to a manageable few, but here is a selection over three seasons:

Revisiting Huggy Jon's Garden

Have you Bitches noticed an empty seat in the house?...



That's because our friend, Huggy Jon (aka Deep Blue) of Montréal, Québec has been absent due to a serious illness.

In tribute to Huggy Jon, we here at Infomaniac revisit his floral offerings to 2013's Annual Infomaniac Garden Photos Event.

"Way on the top of the first photo you can see a few cosmos; then the big yellow ones are some kind of coreopsis but I'm not sure exactly; then the petunias (light purple) and the big red one is a Pelargonium. I don't know what are the small yellow ones among the petunias."...



"Here you have some calibrachoa (red), verbena (blue) and tagetes (yellow)"...



"On the back balcony, voici des chrysanthemum, pelargoniums et verbena pour cacher la poubelle" (to hide the garbage can)....

He says, "As I no longer have a yard, or garden, or house plants for that matter, I must submit a garden item from the supermarket.

A lovely old timey Buddleia...


I love its fragrance, especially this old one. I have several more further back in the yard with much more dramatic foliage, dark purple with an orange tip, but this is the easiest one for me to get to and also the strongest smell.


A close up of said bed with this years candidates for color, begonias, caladiums, and coleus. I know they're annual to the rest of the world, but here, some of these are 3 years old and going strong...



Next, a view down into my patio edged by a large raised bed, in which I have been switching out plants for all these years, never satisfied and then nostalgic for some bed of Calla lilies I dug up in the Bush administration...



The foxglove is one of those fortuitous accidents, a gypsy that wandered into the yard probably from some bird's poop and keeps coming back every year. Unfortunately, it's in the middle of the path, so you have to navigate around it, I think it's worth it...



I love these tiny, tiny Rain Lilies...


They bloom when it rains or you water them. They're so small the leaves look like a grass and so my new gardener was weeding them out until I sweetly told him to knock it off.


And finally, my annual vista of my back yard, taken from the window behind my toilet. It's the best view I have...


There really is a path through there, and at right angles to it is a new trail caused by my clear cutting tumbled down the hill through the irises and ferns and crocosmia. Oh well, everybody needs a little extra space and light every now and then.

Why Can't We Be Friends?

The band (War) got the idea for this song when they were traveling in Japan in the early '70s. Drummer Harold Brown said, "We're all connected by language, and by our food, and by our culture. Most racists don't know why they're racist. But you pick them up and take them over and drop them in a country, like India or Pakistan, guess what? 'Why can't we be friends?' Because all of a sudden you find out we're more alike inside than we are on the outside. We started realizing that that's really important. You travel all over the world, you can't speak a lot of their language. But one thing they do know, they know your body language, how you may react."

Cleaning Things Up

It seems that Tumblr has decided to clean things up.



When I clicked on several Tumblr sites that I occasionally visit, this is what I saw...



To make matters worse, those white splotches that look like cum stains were flashing so I had to close the site before I had a seizure.

Tumblr has installed a "safe mode" to filter out explicit content.

Here's what I want to know...

Is there a way for me to get past the "safe mode" screen to view the sites I want to visit? Note: I'm not a Tumblr subscriber.
