Salami vs. Spam

Which do you prefer?

Salami?

[via Zenfancy]

Or Spam?

Mistress MJ's box has been stuffed full of spam recently and she is not happy about it at all.

I'm having enough trouble keeping up with the paperwork following the World Domination Tour, (not to mention the border-crossing incident) let alone trying to delete all the spam comments as they come in.

I'd prefer not to enforce comment moderation.

I suppose I could install "word verification" however, those of you who blog drunk will encounter difficulties with that option.

Suggestions welcome.

  1. JON: I see in my previous post that you left this message...

"There is another option "Registered Users - Includes OpenID", which I think includes WordPress."

That sounds like something worth investigating.

Will weigh my options in the upcoming week as suggestions come in.

    Thank you!

  2. if you had him wave that salami
    at these undesirables, maybe
    they'd run screaming?

(i fear i have no constructive advice.
i don't even know how to pop a
    gif at my dump)

  3. Can't you just skip the options "anonymous" and "name/url" from the list? "OpenID" should include wordpress-users.
I hope your borderline related exaltation comes to an end now.

    1. MAGO: That makes sense…if only I could figure out which button to check.

More about my choices in a new comment further down the page.

  4. What's a dump? What's a gif? What's a pop? Is salami synonym for fresh cock? So many questions...

    I love ham.

and crocs... er... I mean cock!

  6. I've often seen salami at the supermarkets, the white stuff around the dried salami, reminds me of the white dog shit we used to see in the early 80's now sadly extinct. Do you remember Scarlet?

  7. BITCHES: These are what my options are on Blogger…

On the “settings” page, where it says “who can comment?” I have the following options…

    Anyone - includes Anonymous Users
    Registered User - includes OpenID
    User with Google Accounts
    Only members of this blog

    WHICH ONE SHOULD I CHOOSE?

    2. Where's XL?

If you say "Anyone" anonymous spam will keep pouring in.
"User with Google Accounts" would basically avoid anybody without a google-account, f.e. wordpress-users or users of other blogging software. These may actually be not so many here, but it would also prohibit somebody new with such an non-google-account from commenting.
"Members only" means Inzucht, no chance for new commentors of any kind.

So I think "Registered User" is the one thing to try. It should include google-people, and via OpenID wordpress and such ...

    3. MAGO: I have no idea what they mean by “Registered User.”

  8. I prefer salami.
However, I get more than my daily requirement of spam.
I had put it so that all posts prior to the two most recent need word verification (the robots tend to like mostly old posts), and the most recent one requires none.
But now they've discovered my newer ones too.
Still, it cuts the spam by a lot.

    1. JASON: It’s something to consider but MISS SCARLET will go apoplectic if I install word verification.

      We can't have THAT.

  9. Well, you could form a select force of counter-spam professionals with the power to zap SPAM. Of course you would have to give them Superpowers of a co-administrator, such as the HHoF.

Choose wisely, because it could cost Norma a testicle if you make the wrong choice.

  10. The short answer to the spam problem is to tick "Anyone" and enable Word Verification for a short time (couple of weeks maybe) until the spammers move on.

The short answer to the other question is "fried SPAM."

    3. Ja, it almost tastes like food when fried.

    4. ... reminds me of Leberkäse. Did you ever touch it in Berlin?
I think the only reason for its existence is the fact that it cures hang-overs. With Senf and a cold Coke.

  11. I tried using 'registered user' but people with Wordpress etc had great difficulty signing in, Blogger wants people to have Google accounts and is reluctant to let anyone else get in. Very reluctantly, I've had to turn on wv. If there were an option to close comments after a few days it would help, but one has to do it individually on each post, which is rubbish when it's a post from years back suddenly attracting the spam.

    1. There is an option to close comments, mine are set to go to comment moderation after two weeks... so my spam after two weeks never gets published. I mark it as spam so it's highlighted to Google.

    3. MISS SCARLET: My old posts have “comment moderation” installed too.

I just find it annoying to get spammed on my recent posts.

    4. I know this is tempting fate... it really is... but I've never had much spam. I don't know why not.
You know how you get those days when you think everyone hates you and you end up taking to the chaise longue sobbing your heart out because nobody cares, blah, blah, blah...well at the end of this rhetoric I also add that even the spammers hate and avoid me.
Please do not worry, this only happens to me once every two months, usually on a Tuesday.
