The Mistress Loses the Plot

SUNDAY will be our last post until after Christmas. But today, The Mistress shares a vignette from her holiday baking...

[via]

As you can see, The Mistress spent Friday in a frenzy of baking. We haven't seen this much whisk-wielding and cake-sniffing since the Infomaniac Kitchen Queen Contest!

Pleased with her bounty of baked goods, The Mistress felt she deserved a little libation...

Before we continue, a word about The Mistress's kitchen. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the backyard where a variety of woodland creatures wander about at all times of day. The Mistress provides fresh water in a bowl each day for them, within close view of the windows.

And now back to our post-baking, cocktail-imbibing scenario...

The Mistress, happily enjoying her cocktail, noticed a couple of squirrels approach the water bowl for a drink.

And this, Bitches, is where The Mistress loses her tenuous grip on reality...

She exclaimed aloud, to the squirrels, "Look! Mummy's enjoying a beverage too!"

Please return for Sunday's Christmas post, if The Mistress hasn't completely lost the plot by then.

Yes, We Have No Bananas

Earlier this year, the Chinese government banned erotic "banana-eating" on live-stream Internet.

New regulations mean that live-streaming sites must monitor all their output round-the-clock to ensure nothing untoward is going on, keeping an eye out for any "erotic" banana-eating.

More details here.

No mention was made of where the Chinese officials stand on cake.

Cake for Miss Scarlet

Rather than wallowing in self-pity, I've decided to respond belatedly to Herr Mago's meme, CAKE FOR SCARLET...

Happy 90th Birthday, Norma!

Click cake pic to enlarge...

Oh my...I've accidentally placed the numbers incorrectly on Norma's cake!

That "9" in "90" should be reversed to a "6" to say "60."

And what's that beside the "a" in "Norma?" Could somebody get a fly swatter?

Happy SIXTIETH birthay, Norma, from all your friends here at Infomaniac.

Blessed are the Bakers

Today we celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Honoré, the patron saint of bakers. Aujourd'hui c'est la Saint Honoré, le saint patron des boulangers.

[via]
Is that a baguette in your basket or are you just happy to see me?

[via]

As it says here, "If anyone needed a patron saint in the Middle Ages, it was the bakers. As Phyllis Magida points out in Eating, Drinking, and Thinking, bakers suffered "bakers' asthma" from inhaling flour dust, "bakers' knee" from nearly eighteen hours-a-day bending and lifting, and "bakers' eczema" - an infectious skin disease caused by the clogging of their skin pores by the flour. Bakers who were convicted of short-changing customers or using bad grain were subject to the "bakers' gallows, a terrible contraption by which the baker was hoisted in a basket and dropped 40 feet into a pool of mud usually resulting in multiple fractures."

And you Bitches thought the Oubliette was torture.

In France, St. Honoré's feast day is celebrated with a week-long festival of bread, "la Fête du Pain."

We here at Infomaniac wish to honor this occasion with... wait for it...

Cake-Eating Increases Productivity

Good news, cake lovers!

According to a new study, eating a piece of cake makes you more productive.

The poll shows that eating a piece of cake helps one in two Brits get more done in a day.

Nearly two-thirds (59 per cent) of those polled gained a genuine sense of happiness when physically baking a cake, and more than three in four (79 per cent) said the feeling of achievement was a confidence boost and strengthened family bonds.

But it’s not a boost for everyone, apparently.

Only 36 per cent of the Northern Irish said they were happy when baking cakes, compared to a massive 70 per cent in Scotland and 57 per cent in England.

How about you, bitches?

Cake Farts

Earlier this week, Inexplicable DeVice (IVD) put on his frilly pinny and baked a lovely Victoria Sponge Cake.

Or as Frobi said, “It's a Victoria Sponge - named after Queen Victoria - it was her favourite. Still loved by Queens in the 21st Century!”

IVD’s yummy Victoria Sponge Cake

While IVD was sound asleep in his eight-foot long bed, Mistress MJ snuck into the kitchen where the cake was cooling on the counter.

She lifted her frock, exposing her comely knickerless bottom, and deftly sat on the Victoria Sponge Cake.

IVD recoiled in horror when he found out what happened and his guests refused to eat a single slice.

On my behalf, I would like to say it COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE.

Sorrowful Sunday

Today we continue our ‘Poor Poor Pitiful MJ’ theme as I bemoan the fact that all you Brits are spending Mother’s Day with your mummies, eating Simnel Cake.

Yet I, an orphan, cannot enjoy the company of my mum since she passed away years ago.

(insert sounds of sobbing here)

Mother’s Day isn’t until May in Canada but that’s beside the point.

You and your mummies are all stuffing your faces on Simnel Cake, which, ‘til Geoff posted about it , I had never heard of nor eaten.

But apparently it’s what you do on Mother’s Day over there. And more Simnel Cake again at Easter.

Although I’ve never seen a Simnel Cake on Coronation Street so can it really be real?

I don’t suppose you’ll save me a slice.

You won’t even think about me, will you?

Alone.

Motherless.

Sans Simnel Cake.
