    1. NORMA: Great! The more beans you eat, the more poisonous gas you’ll be able to emit.

  2. Oh - Pyrethrum comes from Chrysanthemum... but causes respiratory problems in mammals.
I will stick to my essential oil preparations. At least my bugs will smell nice.

    1. MISS SCARLET: Upon further reading, I’ve discovered that Pyrethrum is also toxic to fish and amphibians so it should be kept out of storm drains and waterways.

An alternative to the insecticide is to grow Pyrethrum daisies in your own garden to repel pests.

  3. We have spiders, dragonflies, ladybirds, hoverfly larvae, wasps, bats and birds that do a fine enough job of seeing-off all sorts of nasties in our garden. We never use chemical sprays, and let nature sort itself out. That, and a bit of judicious snail-stamping, of course. Jx

    1. JON: I don’t think the average person is aware that spiders and other critters do a fine job of eliminating the peskier pests. I blame TV ads for encouraging pesticide/insecticide use.

As for the snails, I like the little creatures but they can do a lot of damage in the garden. However, there are natural ways to control them. Or how about escargots?

  5. I use a handheld electric zapper in the shape of a tennis bat, used mostly for moths as revenge for ruining my beautiful cashmere jumpers.

    1. MITZI: May I borrow your zapper to use on anyone who dares to wear Crocs?

    2. When it was new, I was dared by my maid of all work to lick the grill and like an idiot I did, it give me a thrill like no other. Something like a taser or a cattle prod would be an ideal choice for croc wearers. It's on my bucket list to chase Camila Batmanghelidjh down the street with a cattle prod.

    3. MITZI: Not only does Camila Batmanghelidjh wear Crocs; she's also giving a bad name to kaftan-wearers.

  6. I find a blunderbuss works wonders and doesn't leave one gasping for unpoisoned air afterwards.

Although, there's an awful lot of redecorating to do once the little blighters are no more...

    1. MR. DeVICE: I'd expected something more Star Trek-ish from you but a blunderbuss would certainly do the trick.

    2. A phaser set on kill would probably vaporise half the house!
