ReplyDeleteI read the New York Times Arts section every Sunday but online.....The Enquirer when waiting in long lines at Walmart
ReplyDeleteThe Enquirer is probably the only thing at Walmart that isn't made in China.
DeleteThe Sun, Page 3.
ReplyDeleteLX: The Canadian equivalent to Page 3 is the "Sunshine Girl" but she's always clothed, albeit scantily.
DeleteThe MOST shocking thing about these pictures is one of the women in the bottom image - the one with the dark hose and white shoes. Makes her look like trash.
ReplyDeleteCOOKIE: Not to mention those white shoes should stay in the closet from Labor Day to Memorial Day.
DeleteExactly my point!
DeleteNew York times and the Philly inquirer. The paper boy delivers at night, and is usually gone by morning.
ReplyDeletegee, you must give a big tip.
DeleteNORMA: We’ve all heard the rumours about Mistress Maddie’s big tip.
DeleteAll online. Funny, because I studied journalism in college and my brother is the editor of a newspaper. I quit my local paper once I realized that I was only interested in the horoscope and crossword puzzle.
ReplyDeleteAYEM8Y: You were only interested in the horoscope and the crossword?
DeleteAnd perhaps the paper boy? (Unless Mistress Maddie got her hands on him first)
And now there's Sudoku which is a headache in the making as far as I'm concerned.
i never miss the rotogravure.
ReplyDeleteNORMA: Watch out for those photographers on 5th Avenue!
Deletei never take my bonnet off. ever.
DeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteInfomaniac supplies all the news I could ever hope for.
(to quote LX) Did I win yet?
MR. DeVICE: Don’t make me take away LX’s award and give it to you.
DeleteIt's OK, he can keep it. Besides, that frill would clash with our dado rail.
DeleteMR. DeVICE: I misread that as “dodo rail.”
DeleteDodo rail? Now there's an idea...
DeleteIs it an implement for hanging dodos from, or a railroad specifically for the aforementioned flightless birds?
Still daily. I read the NY Times and the dreadful San Francisco Chronicle, only to keep up with its typos, both online.
ReplyDeletePEENEE: I’m guessing that Saki lies down on the paper the minute you open it.
DeleteThe Daily Mail, Paris Match and the Sunday Sport all online.
ReplyDeleteMITZI: The bus seat sniffer story from the Sunday Sport was particularly riveting!
DeleteI wonder if sexy Roxanne has found her knickers yet.
DeleteMITZI: The thief might want to return her teeth while he's at it.
DeleteOh dear ...
ReplyDeleteIts ages since I regularly had a "real" printed newspaper in hands, but still know the smell of a Drucksaal. I quit the local daily some years ago because it was turned from a real local newspaper into a Mantelausgabe - there is a jacket made from Agenturmeldungen (comes from a bureau in Frankfurt I think), and a core from local news. They closed a lot of local bureaus in the field around, concentrated the whole thing at one place and kicked out a lot of people. Replaced reporters with people who sit at desks and look into the web.
I try now and then to land something in the Saturday edition, but the days of the beloved "Sonntagsbeilage" are seemingly over.
Interestingly some "newspapers" for free now do the real local news - they are produced by the same publishing house & at least one independent, purely ad-financed. And of course they have no place for an essay or the meagre shadow of feulledong (as we call it here).
Online only. I go through Stern, Spiegel, Sueddeutsche, ZEIT, NZZ, Guardian, Mail and NYT , Slate, Atlantic, Sabotage Times, and then there are the news sites (Reuters, DW). AToL, RT and such things too. I may have mentioned GoodNoos.
Years ago it was a ritual. buying the TAZ & going into the mensa, eating, flipping through; then coffee, roll-up and the one or two longer and interesting articles (nein: kein schwarzer Rollkragenpullover !); later this was replaced by reading the ZEIT (except that silly economic section that nobody needs) on Sunday afternoon. (Coffee & roll-up, or glass of red & cigarillo ; depended/s on day time. Today it's a white.)
Today I only have a printed (its not, but we do not split hairs, it's not the HHoF !) newspaper in my hand on Sunday in my bathtub : Those earlier mentioned cheap replacements for the local daily.
I gaze at the pictures of the local gentry, wonder how drunk they might be, and thank GOd that I have nothing to do with them.
I worked at a newsstand in the station for some years, early morning shift, filling up etcetc - Bubi in pic 3 would have gotten his sack ripped off: Buy before read, no prisoners.
MAGO: I used to enjoy the ritual of leisurely reading the print copy of the newspaper but now I find, like you, that I’m reading newspapers online most of the time.
Delete"Replaced reporters with people who sit at desks and look into the web.".... How true. We need REAL on-location reporting; not desk clones rehashing the same story from the same source.
I do read what is left of the Marion Star, my home town paper. But my hometown newspaper is a shadow of itself. So I only read the obits.
ReplyDeleteCOOKIE: I like to read Norma’s obits.
DeleteHaven't read a newspaper for more then ten years. Haven't had depression symptoms since. There must be a link between those two events.
ReplyDeleteHUGGY JON: A friend of mine who suffers from depression did the same thing as you did…she stopped reading the newspaper.
DeleteI don’t read the news before bedtime, in hopes of a more restful sleep.
p.s. It’s good to see you here again…ça fait longtemps.
Si longtemps que ça? I've been so busy trying to learn the Bee-bee-dee-bop - Strech - Slap. Turns out I'm going to need a lot more practice.
DeleteThey throw a newspaper at the diner every Tuesday, this week there were two stories about the joys of guns, one about a trout bbq at the park, Kermit & Margie's wedding picture from fifty years ago and Candice got arrested again...
ReplyDeleteI do all my news reading online.
Candice was probably still trying to turn tricks. At the trout bbq.
DeleteWALLY & PEENEE: BBQ Hooker…the only grilling tool you’ll ever need.
DeleteSo Mistress & Peenee know Candice too...!
DeleteI buy a local paper... simply because I need something to light the fire with...
ReplyDeleteBut I do read it! I know the price of a sheep!
