Genealogical DNA tests are becoming increasingly popular as people want to find out their ancestral ethnicity and/or find other individuals they're related to.
Have any of you Bitches had a genealogical DNA test? If so, tell us what you found.
I haven't, but my husband did. It confirmed what anyone looking at him would immediately guess, that he was a White Boy. Surprisingly, though, it also showed he had Asian Indian traces.
I too loved that episode! Loved that Larry's great grandparents had owned slaves! News like that could ruin one's sleep for eternity. I am having such an awful time with relatives right now, the last thing I need are MORE.
NORMA: The Mistress feels your pain. Despite having loads and loads of relations, there are a few bad apples. Such is the case with every family, unfortunately.
I certainly don’t NEED more relatives. However, since I’m doing the extensive family tree, it’s useful to share info with others who may be able to fill in blanks. Also, I’m especially keen to add photos and sometimes you have to cast the net quite wide to find old photographs.
MISS SCARLET: The Mistress plans to do the DNA test eventually, in order to connect with far-flung relations, although I already know loads of them. I must be mad to invite more of them into my life.
I’ve known since I was a child where my ancestors came from: Ireland & England.
And… are you sitting down? Some of my ancestors are from Devon! Still others are from Norfolk so it’s possible I’m related to both you and Mr. DeVice!
No, never occurred to me. Maybe a third Sylvaner and a little German Shepherd, but who wants to know ? That Arkansas pair in the picture surely needs some ... guidance. But it may be too late anyway.
Sadly, people who build family trees on Ancestry, for example, actually make mistakes like this because they haven’t checked official documents before typing in the information.
It’s beyond belief the sort of errors I’ve seen. Someone typed in my living relative’s name as DEAD yet I talked to this so-called dead relative just last week!

ReplyDeletePEENEE: A soupçon of South Asia… perhaps a special, secret ingredient that made up your RMan.
DeleteI'll wait until it's $19.95. There will be no surprises in my DNA. The ribbons of my genetic material spell "shtetl."
ReplyDeleteNORMA: My favourite Finding Your Roots moment was when Larry David and Bernie Sanders found out they’re related.
DeleteBernie says of Larry’s “Saturday Night Live” impression of him, “He does a better Bernie Sanders than I do!”
With DNA tests you can find other relatives you didn't even know you had. Although sometimes the ones you already have are enough!

Oh, who am I kidding? I have so many photos, it's ridiculous.
DeleteIt's just that I love old family photos and sometimes they turn up in distant relative's closets. As do skeletons, however.
My genetic test revealed that I am 75% gin. Jx
ReplyDeleteJON: No surprise there.
DeleteYou must be related to Mr. DeVice and Mistress Maddie.
NoIf Jon is gin then I am probably cake and biscuit with a twist of Moscow Mule.

I have no idea what 'NoIf' means?
ReplyDeleteSx
If you rearrange the letters of NOIF, you get INFO.
DeleteIn Arkansas, genealogy can be a little confusing!

LX & MAGO: “I’m My Own Grandpa”…ha!

I'm both curious and afraid of what I might find out. Half of my family drives me crazy. The other half, they're just plain crazy.
ReplyDeleteHis girlfriend might be his sister is most likely the least of his concerns.
