I can not imagine such a freeze. During my childhood in the woods some winters reached -25°C, but I have no memory of this, and only know it, because my father and his colleagues had to go out under these conditions.
It is cold here on the east coast. So cold, that when I went to write my name in the snow, it froze mid stream. It is about 3 here today, but in my mink it feels like like Rio.
At 22:00 the car thermometer said the outside temperature was a balmy 6c that must be like shorts and t-shirt weather for you. At -43°C my heart would stop beating.
The coldest I've ever experienced was -30F (-40F with the wind chill) during a once in a century blizzard event on the East Coast! The city shut down for almost the whole week! I learned that my body was built for sunshine & warm weather! Winter blizzards suck!
I'm with LX, low to mid 70s F here, which is a rare occurrence thanks to El Nino, keeping the freezes up at the northern states & your part of North America. Sorry. Hopefully, it gets warmer for y'all soon & you aren't forced to take a dog sled team to work--that's a lot of dogs to pick up after.
OK. Now I feel a bit bad for moaning-in your Valentine's post-about having a flurry of snow.
I doubt whether I've experienced anything much below -5 C. It's against the law for the temperature to drop below that in the UK as it brings the entire country to a stand still!
after arriving in minnesota, i was slapped into reality with some horrific winters. i recall -40 below wind chills & my shock that people chose to live in that kind of hell. i also did the, "throw a cup of boiling water into the cold air & it evaporates trick."
-8f/-22c when I lived in Michigan. It is 76f/25c today.

DeleteShrinkage big time.
ReplyDeleteOh, is it cold, you say?
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I didn't hear you over the roar of the AC.

DeleteAND the rest of you, while I'm at it.
Colder than a whore's heart!

ReplyDeleteBITCHES: The temperature dropped even further at one point today. It’s evened out now at minus 40.
ReplyDeleteI applied Vaseline to my face when I left the house. Tip of the day: supposedly, petroleum jelly helps prevent frostbite.
Fortunately, now that I’m home, the furnace is doing its best but I’m getting under a wooly blanket now and will catch up with you tomorrow.
One good thing about this weather... NO ONE IS WEARING CROCS!
Is "wooly blanket" a euphemism?
ReplyDeleteThis last week in Spain it was 18C - AT NIGHT! Jx
ReplyDeletenot much below -4C sadly this doesn't compare with - 40 C but it's a balmy 23 C tonight...

Oh, but it did Mr Devine! -27ºC Scotland, December 1995. And in 2010 Devon recorded temperatures of -19ºC.... which I will never forget!

Oh, yes. I do recall the 2010 cold snap that wasn't so much a snap as a drawn out, protracted torture. Bah! Let's not have that again.
DeleteWe are in the midst of another chilly snap, naturally my heating has broken down; I have men in my garage.
